Answer to Test your Portuguese 1:
The tricky part is the word SUA. Because it comes right before the word ‘mãe’ we tend to think of it as the possessive pronoun (sua = your/her).
But in fact in this case the word SUA is a verb. It is the third person singular of the verb SUAR (to sweat): ela sua = she sweats.
So, the correct punctuation is:
Maria toma banho porque sua. Mãe, disse ela, pegue a toalha.
(Maria takes showers because she gets sweat. Mom, she said, grab the towel.)
